Why You Shouldn’t Wash Your Hair Right Before Styling

At Hair at Central Erindale, we love helping our clients look and feel their best for every occasion – whether it’s a wedding, formal, or special event. One of the most common questions we get is: “Should I wash my hair right before my appointment?”

The answer is no – and here’s why!

1. Freshly Washed Hair Can Be Too Slippery

When your hair is freshly washed, it loses some of its natural texture and grip. This makes it harder for curls to hold, braids to stay in place, or upstyles to last all day (and night!).

2. Natural Oils Help Styling

The natural oils in your hair actually work in your favour. They give your hair a little extra weight and texture, making it easier for us to style and secure without needing as many products.

3. Styles Last Longer

If your hair has been washed the day before (or even two days before), it tends to hold curls, waves, and pins much better. Your style is more likely to stay put for hours – which is exactly what you want for your big event.

4. Avoiding Frizz & Flyaways

Freshly washed hair can be more prone to frizz and static. By leaving a little time between your wash and your appointment, your hair will be smoother, shinier, and easier to manage.

5. We Can Always Freshen It Up

Don’t worry if your hair feels a bit oily or flat – that’s where our salon products come in. Dry shampoo, texturising sprays, and professional styling products will give your hair the perfect base for a flawless finish.

The Perfect Prep

For best results, we recommend:

  • Wash your hair the day before your styling appointment.

  • Avoid heavy conditioners or leave-in products at the roots.

  • Arrive with dry hair (unless told otherwise for a specific service).

At Hair at Central Erindale, we’ll take care of the rest and create a gorgeous, lasting style that makes you feel amazing.
